UNStudio, founded in 1988 by Ben van Berkel and Caroline Bos, is a Dutch architectural design studio specializing in architecture, urbanism and infrastructure projects. The name, UNStudio, stands for United Network Studio, referring to the collaborative nature of the practice. Throughout 25 years of international project experience, UNStudio has continually expanded its capabilities through prolonged collaborations. This network, combined with our centrally located offices in Amsterdam and Shanghai, enables us to work efficiently anywhere in the world. With over seventy built projects in Asia, Europe, and North America, the studio continues to increase its global presence with recent commissions in among others Germany, China, South Korea, Singapore and Georgia.
As a network practice, a highly flexible methodological approach has been developed which incorporates parametric designing and collaborations with leading specialists in other disciplines. The office has produced a wide range of work ranging from public buildings, infrastructure, offices, residential, products, to urban masterplans. Pivotal UNStudio projects include the large scale mixed-use project Raffles City in Hangzhou (China), the luxurious department store Galleria Centercity in Seoul and 81 residential towers of I'Park City in Suwon (South Korea), a private family house VilLA NM in Upstate New York (USA) and the Erasmus Bridge in Rotterdam (The Netherlands).
UNStudio also designed various projects in Germany such as the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart which exhibits the classic car company’s ever growing collection and the ZVE Fraunhofer Offices and Laboratory in Stuttgart which has received a Gold DGNB certificate. Current commissions include the prestigious shopping centre Forum Friedrichshain in Berlin as well as two office developments in Munich.
