The Cartesiusdriehoek | Ballast Nedam

The Cartesiusdriehoek in Utrecht, a former business area of the Dutch Railway Company, will be transformed. The masterplan for this new residential neighbourhood of 2,600 homes with a spacious central park, a school, a supermarket, catering and various other facilities are inspired by a scientific theory that proposes people live longer, healthier and happier. The area is set to be the healthiest neighbourhood in the Netherlands through easy accessibility to public transport and bicycle routes; of these, walking and cycling will be the main modes of transport. Emphasis has been placed on sustainability, innovative energy solutions and shared mobility. The neighbourhood offers various housing types for diverse target groups. The development is a cooperation by Ballast Nedam Development and MRP Development. The project’s architect is Mecanoo.
