HPP Online Meeting about ‘the development of station locations’

  General news, HPP-PUBLIC

On Thursday 28 May, we met online to enjoy our home-delivered lunchbox and to participate in a webinar on the development of the station locations.

Ute Schneider (KCAP) gave an inspiring speech about the opportunities and possibilities that the station locations have to offer. Based on her vision of the city and the city location of the train station, she presented some inspiring plans. Her vision for the development of the area around Eindhoven Station was discussed, as were a number of beautiful examples from abroad, such as Como and Morges. With her vision, Ute shows that she uses the city framework to properly implement the station’s environment.

Next, Peter van Bosse (Fakton) chaired a lively discussion about the impact of the coronavirus crisis on the further growth of station locations. However, the general feeling was that the connection between the city and the train station continues to be a focus point even with a decrease in the number of travellers. After that, Peter discussed the process of the area development of station locations. In particular, he presented the connection between stakeholder analysis and investment power. His call for a new round of National Key Project (NSP) funds for the smaller stations went well. Many of the listeners, some of whom municipalities, however need additional resources to achieve a high-quality public space around train stations. This is only possible if all stakeholders such as NS, the municipality and the market parties make a contribution.

‘Station development is the business card of the city. Right now, we need to invest in our train stations. This applies to the smaller cities as well. That is why good cooperation between all stakeholders is essential.’

After lunch, Peter closed the webinar with the following words: station development is the business card of the city. Right now, we need to invest in our train stations. This applies to the smaller cities as well. That is why good cooperation between all stakeholders is essential. Government or provincial funds are more than welcome to help bring these plan developments to fruition.
