Improving the individual systems that make up a city will increase the liveability of the city overall. We focus on the critical needs of people within the diverse systems of the city and place people central when searching on how we can contribute to improve the lives of growing number of people in urban areas around the world. Water, energy, food and shelter need to be secured to sustain the next generations into our megacities of the future. Stable economies, strong leadership, cohesive and engaged communities, employment opportunities, healthy environment and qualitative and accessible education is required to create liveable and loveable cities.

Director and Chief Designer
Gijs is director and chief designer of KuiperCompagnons. He is responsible for the development of various (complex and large-scale) projects and initiatives in the fields of urban development, landscape and architecture, both in the Netherlands and abroad. His strength lies in connecting spatial concepts that are needed tomorrow, but with due regard for the long term perspective. With his integral way of working, he connects the landscape with the city and technical innovation with sustainable aesthetics. By doing this at all scales in the fields of spatial design, urban planning, architecture and landscape architecture, he emphasises the importance of the location of the land in meeting the needs of people and nature. His projects focus on solving challenges of water management and climate resilience in urban deltas.
