HPP about the Central Innovation District (CID) in The Hague

On Wednesday 6 March, we will discuss a new part of The Hague city centre: the Central Innovation District (CID). A complex inner-city assignment where all issues come together regarding mixed-use buildings, valuable public spaces, mobility transition and climate adaptation.

The CID is perfectly located next to the old city centre and between and around the intercity stations Den Haag Centraal, Hollands Spoor and Laan van NOI. Nowhere else do national government, businesses and higher education come so close together. This offers great opportunities! Until around 2040, 20,500 homes will be added for 35,000 new residents, 640,000 square metres of new offices and 255,000 square metres of commercial and social facilities.

Mirko Buining, Programme Director Area Development CID, Municipality of The Hague, takes us through the developments in the CID, including the creation of innovation clusters for economic growth and function blending as a precondition for innovation districts. We will zoom in on 2 themes and interact to exchange knowledge and ideas:

  • Value development/enhancement of areas around stations (experience value public space, property value, mobility value)
  • Economic development, innovation district (economic activity: combination of living, working, learning)

Daan Klaasse, Manager Plan Development, NS Stations will take us through the station developments in The Hague with a look-through for Hollands Spoor, Laan van NOI and Den Haag Centraal stations.
