Beautiful is the Netherlands, isn’t it?

Beautiful is the Netherlands, isn’t it? A sentence that I have heard many times in the past year and a half. Suddenly we had nowhere to go and there were only a few kilometres on the meter. An uncomfortable and uncertain time, but one in which we became aware of our beautiful country and the good conditions we live in. Let’s keep this positive approach and continue to work together to make the Netherlands even more beautiful!

Well, there is always something to criticise, but if we are honest, the circumstances in which we live and work here can be called good. If we look around us, we see new construction or transformation projects everywhere in our inner cities. It is clear that our sector, in cooperation with local and central government, social partners and market parties, is pulling out all the stops to meet the enormous demand for housing. Of course, this cannot be solved overnight, but the effort put into it is enormous and, in my opinion, demands a little respect.

We should hold on to the admiration for our country and the beautiful real estate projects, and not get carried away by the political drivel and negative reporting that the media treats us to every day.

Of course, there is much to be done, but I see it as a challenge to continue firmly and to go the extra mile on certain themes, such as climate and energy transition. Two themes that require a lot of attention and to which we, as a property sector, must and can make a major contribution.

Catch-up for the elderly
And not only that. There is also catching up to do for the elderly. Ageing is a fact and we must realise that we have put this ‘new’ target group on hold for far too long. Not only do the elderly deserve our attention, but giving them a place in the ‘housing train’ also offers opportunities.

By developing places that meet their needs, we create a better flow, something that also benefits all other target groups. We have to make choices here based on data and not blindly follow trends.

Together, we can make the Netherlands even more beautiful, for everyone!
My appeal is therefore to continue working hard on the housing requirement and not to lose sight of the urgent themes and target groups. Let’s not be distracted by a small group that dominates. I know that we as a sector are very capable of doing this. Not only did we prove it during the coronation period, but I also see it happening among the members of Holland Property Plaza. The knowledge, the will and the opportunities are there. Together we can make the Netherlands even more beautiful, for everyone!
